I'm fundraising for remote and rural Queenslanders doing it tough

Doing it tough in the bush means doing it extra tough, because people in remote, rural and regional Queensland don’t have the same access to professional mental health services and support. For many, the Flying Doctor is their only option.

That’s why I’m challenging myself to walk 3km a day in March. I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Please support me!

Together we can keep the Flying Doctor flying, delivering 3 major mental health programs (Drought Wellbeing, Remote Wellbeing and Wellbeing Out West) and over 12,100 mental health consultations a year to regional, rural and remote Queensland.

Please donate to my challenge today!

Found Captain Crab today

Saturday 21st Mar
Although walking alone each day can feel lonely at times, there are friends to be found along the way. Today I met Captain Crab, who paused his quick scampering just long enough to remind me that even the smallest encounters can brighten your path 🦀 A quiet moment, a tiny companion, and a good reminder—you’re never really as alone as you think.

Clocking steps safely after dark

Tuesday 3rd Mar
Long day. Late finish. But the Fit to Fly challenge doesn’t clock off just because work runs over. Tonight’s steps were done under streetlights instead of sunshine — high-vis mindset on, headphones low, phone tucked away, and awareness up. Staying vigilant, sticking to well-lit paths, and letting someone know I was out. Progress isn’t about perfect conditions. It’s about showing up safely and consistently — even after a big day.

Rainy Sunday doesn’t inhibit today’s steps

Sunday 1st Mar
A little bit of wind and rain didn’t dampen today’s steps, logging an easy 6kms to start my Fit to Fly challenge. Thank you for your support. A rainy Sunday on the Gold Coast just makes me feel more committed — fewer crowds, cooler air, and that smug “still got it done” feeling. If you’re heading out in the rain, a few small upgrades: • Cap or visor → keeps rain off your face • Light waterproof layer → not heavy, just wind-resistant • Slightly shorter stride → reduces slip risk on wet paths • Post-walk hot shower + tea → mandatory reward
