Better health access and outcomes for regional, rural and remote communities.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has the largest mental health service of Flying Doctor sections across Australia, with clinicians operating in areas as remote as Lockhart River in the Cape York, all the way to Camooweal on the Northern Territory border. Many of the regional, rural and remote communities served don’t have any other mental health services.

The highest standard of clinical care is provided by trained mental health professionals, working in several specialised teams to provide psychological therapies and tailored programs. It’s vital support for people who live and work across this large, harsh, unique and beautiful country.

There when Queenslanders need it most

When severe flooding impacts communities across Queensland, the damage isn’t only physical. The emotional and psychological toll can be long-lasting, especially for people in rural and remote areas already facing isolation.

Timna, a Senior Mental Health Clinician with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), sees this impact firsthand.

In the aftermath of floods, Tinma supports Queenslanders who are dealing with anxiety, trauma, grief and ongoing stress. Many are living in communities cut off by floodwaters, with limited access to local mental health services. For them, the RFDS can be the only support available.

“After disasters like floods, people are often exhausted and overwhelmed,” Tinma said. “Being able to talk to someone, to feel heard and supported, can make a real difference.”

Thanks to the supporters like you, RFDS clinicians like Tinma can travel into affected communities or connect with patients remotely, providing vital mental health care when it’s needed most.
